# Introduction to Matchely

> Matchely is a multi-sport platform: find people to play with, run competitions, and track how you improve.

Matchely brings together, in a single app, the three things amateur sport
usually scatters across group chats and spreadsheets: **finding people to play
with**, **running competitions**, and **keeping the record** of everything you
have played.

It works in the browser, on iPhone, and on Android — the same account
everywhere.

## The two numbers on your profile

This is the most common mix-up for newcomers, so let's start there:

| | What it measures | How it changes |
| ----------- | ------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Rating** | Your **playing level**, from 1 to 99 | Follows your matches and updates once a day |
| **Ranking** | Your **results** | Adds up the last **12 months**, in a window that moves with time |

Rating is skill; ranking is harvest. A high-rated player who hasn't played in
six months has a low ranking — and that is correct.

<Note>
  **A ranking is not a competition.** You don't sign up for one: it is computed
  from the matches you already play.
</Note>

## The sports

Seven families, in singles and doubles variants: **tennis, beach tennis, padel,
pickleball, table tennis, volleyball, and basketball**.
